British Columbia Guided Sturgeon, Salmon, Steelhead & Trout fishing trips

Frequently asked questions

What does a typical fishing day look like?

Our 8-hour trips usually commence at 8am with the return time being set for 4pm. Anglers will meet their guide at their assigned boat launch, unless a hotel pick-up has been arranged. We can accommodate almost any schedule, therefore start and end times are very flexible. We also offer evening Sturgeon or Salmon trips during the months of May through September. If the guest has booked a combination salmon and sturgeon trip, the guide and the guest can discuss and determine how much effort and time will be spent on each species. Lunches are included in packages. A cooler with ice is provided, as well as non alcoholic beverages.

What is your cancellation policy?

A 50% deposit is required for all bookings. Cancellations must be received at least 30 days prior to your fishing trip in order to receive a full deposit refund. If cancellations occur 10 - 30 days prior to your fishing trip, we will issue a gift certificate, valid for one year, in the amount of the deposit taken. If cancellations occur within 10 days of your fishing trip, there will be no refund of deposit paid.

Any special requests or considerations regarding booking protocol must be approved by BC Sport Fishing Group Ltd. Management, and all requests must be sent by e-mail or mailed directly to us.

What do I need to bring along?

All rods reels and gear are provided for you. Some suggestions for things you should consider bringing are; an extra pair of socks, sweatshirt, rain jacket (weather permitting), hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, & gloves (if it's cold). Please dress in layers as the weather varies throughout the day. Please do not forget your camera! Should you be traveling and limited on space, with notice our guides can provide you with some of these items.

If I want to bring my own gear what should I bring?

You are more than welcome to bring your own waders and boots. If you are coming on a fly fishing trip we recommend a 4-6 weight rod for Trout fishing and a 6-8 weight rod for Winter Steelhead, or our Wilderness Adventure Trips.

How do I get my fishing licence?

Fishing licences are available from your guide. They also carry the relevant conservation tags should you require one. We can bill the licences to your account, or you can pay cash. Prices vary depending on your residency in or outside of BC. You can also register and purchase your licence from the BC Government website http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/licences/. If you do choose to do this, please don't forget to bring it as there is a government licence replacement fee!

When is the best time for Sturgeon fishing?
Sturgeon season lasts all year. The peak time for Sturgeon begins in March and lasts all the way through November. The cooler weather of December, January, and February do not stop us from catching Sturgeon in our covered and heated jet boats.

When is the best time for Salmon fishing?
Chinook
are present in the Fraser year round, but not in significant numbers until the beginning of June. The season lasts until mid November.

The height of the Sockeye season can be found in late July on the catch and release waters of the isolated and beautiful Upper Pitt River (fly only).

The Fraser River Sockeye run starts in July and lasts through September. Season openings are dependent on the run size. Call 604-847-3100 for more information.

On odd numbered years (2009, 2011, 2013…) the Fraser, Vedder, & Harrison River experience a Pink Salmon run like no other! It is possible at the peak of the run to find a Pink Salmon on your line on nearly every cast! The run time varies from August to October, please call for the best times.

Coho Season begins in mid to late September, and lasts until mid-November. These hard fighting fish are very acrobatic and their leaps and jumps when you get one on your line, will surely impress you.

Chum Salmon is pound-for-pound, one of the hardest fighting fish. These fish begin their Fraser and Harrison River runs in late September and nice, fresh chrome fish can still be found all the way until late November.

I'm interested in Fly Fishing, what do you offer?

Our Fly Fishing Guides are very diverse and are comfortable on all the local waters. It is possible to find great Fly fishing during all twelve months of the year in our area. Whether it's Cutthroat Trout on the backwaters of the Fraser, Winter Steelhead on the Vedder, or even Dolly Varden, RainbowTrout, Sea Run Bull Trout & Sockeye Salmon, on one of our Wilderness Adventure trips-we offer it all. On a cool day in October it is possible to catch all five species of Salmon on the fly in one day! Our Fly fishing Guides are experienced in both single handed and double handed Spey casting techniques, and are always keen to help out!

Is the gratuity included in the package price?

A gratuity is discretionary based on your own personal experience. As a general rule, we recommend that a client tips 10-20% of the fishing costs. Our guides work very hard to make your experience the best it can be and they appreciate tips as recognition of their hard work and dedication. We'd appreciate any comments that you have regarding your fishing trip. If you have a great trip, we want to know about it. If you have any concerns please don't hesitate to let us know so we can improve our services.
